CMA Scotland - ensuring an efficient market

Central Market Agency (CMA) Scotland was set up to ensure that the water and sewerage markets in Scotland function simply and efficiently.
It is responsible for transferring customer information between suppliers, so changing water supplier is an easy process. The CMA also calculates how much money each supplier owes Scottish Water for wholesale services.
When you change water supplier, all you have to do is contact your chosen supplier. They may ask for your supply identification number, which is available from your current water provider.
Your new supplier, together with CMA Scotland, will handle everything else.
CMA Scotland and the licensing process
All licensed water suppliers must sign up to the market and operational code, as well as undergoing a process of assurance and technical checks.
Once they have successfully applied for a licence, water companies in Scotland can take part in the CMA technical panel and can nominate and vote for members of the CMA board.
As an independent body, CMA Scotland ensures that the water market runs smoothly and fairly.
